Sure, there were some songs he was shaky on (I never liked him singing "Touch Of Evil"). But some of that isn't his fault. They downtuned a whole step and not to compensate for Owens either. Tipton has said on many occassions that they downtuned simply because the newer stuff was downtuned, so it was easier to just leave the guitars downtuned for everything live. Besides, Iced Earth plays in standard tuning and you can hear that he has NO problem blasting that stuff out.

Clearly that ultra low/mid-range isn't where Tim's strength is and Priest did him a disservice in attempting to sound heavier by downtuning. I think he would've nailed alot of those questionable older Priest songs if they had been up where they should'be been.

And LDM is right, Tim OWNS Diamonds and Rust! They're even playing the Ripper arrangement with Rob.

I much prefer Rob in the band (of course), but Ripper deserves the credit he's due.

Ripper did a great job with Priest. Alot of people cut on him but I honestly think Priest picked a great singer to fill Rob's mighty big shoes. Still, Priest with Rob Rules Supreme and just about everybody knows that. At least the band put out some music and toured while Rob was away.

you missed the point........"We" as priest fans acknowledge Halford as a great singer but it's just a simple thanks for filling in a tough spot.

I can't rewrite history...but Priest should have ceased to exist without Rob.

My thoughts exactly. It's like King Crimson without Fripp, or the Jimi Hendrix Experience without Hendrix.

Halford is the man, no doubt......I'm just showing some class and thanking Ripper.
He's a terrific vocalist.

This is the deal!....I feel Ripper was a Priest fan just like anyone of us who got a shot at the big time! When Halford stepped down, Tim stepped in after a five year search and kicks KK and Glen's ass! Insulting Ripper is like insulting one of us who suddenly got a shot to sing for Priest and what's more, he was amazing!
So if Halford ever decides to quit Priest again and one of us had a shot at singing vocals for Priest, I hope the people on this board would stand behind this Quorumite better than how they stood behind Ripper!
So Ripper, THANKS for your great vocals! much success on your solo career and thanks for giving us
Priest music!
This is from a post I made from another thread that I will quote here

Quote:
The man is an incredible talent to say the least. But when he was in Priest, they just didn't have the groove thing going on with Jug and Dem. Again, I judge the whole package not just the voice or just the music. As far as Tim doing Rob era songs, he did a pretty good job. There were some songs he chopped up pretty bad, but there were some songs that was fucking amazing.

As far as Tim replacing Rob, there is not one of us here that if we had the talent, that would turn down the job to replace Rob. Sure it's the biggest shoes in metal to fill, but it would also be dream for just about all of us too. So if you say you wouldn't sing for Priest given the chance, I'd say you are lying
Furthermore, love him or like him, at least the Priest name was still being talked about. It help keep their name out there. I guess you can say Tim was a good substitute until the Metal God made his return.

I look forward to Tim's solo stuff. He kicked some serious ass when he was with Winter's Bane and was nothing less then awesome with Iced Earth.

He didn't do Priest any favors for filling in for Rob. It was all for him. Old school Priest fans were turned off by Tim. That's the reason they went from playing large venues to little crappy halls. He was a failure at filling in for Halford.

I think Ripper did a great job. There are some songs I did not like his singing on such as Beyond the Realms of Death but there were also some things I felt Tim did as good or even in some cases better than Rob. Both are great singers with different strengths and weaknesses. Of course Rob is #1 because he is the original but Tim deserves a lot of credit for the balls he had to step into Rob's shoes.

I am an old school Priest fan and I wasn't turned off my Tim.

Also, Tim is not the reason Priest went from playing large venues to small ones. The same thing happened to most metal bands during the late 90's-early 00's.

Regarding this thread, I think it's pretty pointless to try and change people's opinions on Tim at THIS messageboard.

Iced Earth tunes to Eb (down a half-step).
